Medical Massage

Medical massage is an outcome-based manual therapy focused on treating a specific medical diagnosis or physical condition. We use a variety of clinical techniques to alleviate pain, improve range of motion, and support the body’s healing process after injury, surgery or a physician referral for surgery.

What to Expect

  • We discuss your health history, review imaging or results (if applicable), and past, present or planned treatment from other professionals. Be prepared to answer questions relating to your condition. Medical massage is often performed in coordination with a diagnosis, imaging, or an unresolved chronic issue.

  • We may guide you through specific diagnostic testing regarding your pain pattern. On occasion, a failed diagnostic test can result in referral to a specialist. We use assessment to guide treatment, but also to rule out injuries that are out of our scope of practice.

  • You communicate your goals of treatment and we develop a plan for the session. We record assessment, track progress and adjust treatment.

  • After receiving bodywork, we may provide recommendations to practice outside of treatment.

Results

  • Our mission is always to be least invasive with the best outcome.

  • The outcome as variable as each individual. We always strive to treat issues in one session, but, depending on biological factors and severity of symptoms, multiple sessions may be required.

  • Conditions like TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction), have reached goal in one session. More complex conditions with a longer history - i.e.) TOS (Thoracic Outlet Syndrome) or Ulnar Nerve Impingement- have needed up to 10 sessions. Other conditions, such as a muscle strain has multiple grades of severity- Grade 1 strain would require 1 - 2 sessions on average, where a Grade 3 strain would require a specialist, and we are unable to assist.

  • After each session you should notice changes in your body and symptoms.
